granted, the idea of remixing is not the latest fad. nonetheless me raabenstein produced the pieces of his album burgundy as the!she. in changing collaborations with other musicians and producers, a fact that was certainly responsible for the refreshing end result. it is hence only a logical next step to pass the pieces on to other artists and to release them on indigo remixes.
the crawler’s cream was sent to fellmann & louise in hamburg. their reduced interpretation engages the original’s sounds and bass lick, stripping it of its authentic flair. in return the remix is presented with a beautiful harmony, and finally, in the end all is well, utterly.
martha moan starts as a laid-back downtempo track. but instead of ending in the usual downbeathumdrum, a melancholic, elegantly swinging jazz number rises from the drum and bass foundation, just like a sunbeam entering a gloomy room. (those hiding behind serra will remain in the dark)
fetid freudian. phat fred is known to most as a raregroove dj. even though his funk remix is quite minimal and electronic, it seems to reminisce the legendary seventies chase themes. however, here the pursuit does not lead through alley ways of an american metropolis, but through a menacing retro-futuristic jungle.
freeman’s roar is an extra goody, not a remix, but an unreleased the!she. recording. an edgy driving drum break and raw blues-funk guitar licks, rock you all the way from the sofa to the dance floor.
