pablo picasso said “i do not search, i find”. not everyone will agree with this individual approch to artistic creation. at least one can assume that some artistic products do shine with an unambiguousness and facility, convinced with simply stunning results.

with our label compilation what the butcher recommends might well not be of our concern… we indirectly relate to this quote, bright and certain that our compilation of new tracks will fulfil this approach. may the musical roots of the tracks be as diverse as possible, the compilation follows a reasonable line through our artists and repertoire. the artists represented here are involved with a strong will and the power of an individual form mixed with a sensual and overtaking amalgam of styles.

in times where the album idea vanishes in favor of single tracks nonine recording is looking to receive this form to open meaning and context simply impossible while associating non relating tracks. each of the artists represented here will come back in time with an artist album on nonine.

berlin, 2008, somewhere in the german hauptstadt. me raabenstein, a young man one imagines to be dynamic, founds the label nonine in these uncertain times for the music industry, and here is the first very comprehensive compilation (fifteen tracks in total). we have already mentioned elsewhere in these pages how much we appreciate the very irreverent first raw by sqaramouche, and now we turn to several other very promising artists whose discographic arrival we are already eagerly awaiting. as the label’s head, raabenstein also gets hands-on with the instrumental side, under his own name, in a duo (langer & raabenstein), and in a trio (the aforementioned sqaramouche). on his own, he offers us a music that’s jazzier than jazz, building on a trip-hop foundation kneaded by jazzanova, with catchy but not very original keyboard riffs. in the duo, these same keyboards converse with a trumpet over synthetic strings, which will remind many of miles davis’ fusion jazz. more to come, natürlich, starting with the nonine website, where all the tracks are available for listening.
